Maine running star Louie Luchini will run in the Mount Desert Island marathon next month, race director Gary Allen announced in a press release Thursday.

The Ellsworth native was an 11-time All-American at Stanford University while finishing second in the country in the national high school cross country championships his senior year.

Luchini holds a personal-best of 13 minutes, 25 seconds for 5,000 meters, and has competed at many elite events across the world, including the Olympic Trials.

His marathoning debut took place at the California International Marathon last December, where he posted a time of 2:26:26.

Luchini is also in the midst of running for a seat as a Maine State Representative for District 38 as a Democrat, opposing Republican Michael Povich.
