PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine Warden Service dog found blood on a trail that led investigators to the Windham man charged with shooting a man who tried to steal his marijuana plants.

Court records indicate the dog discovered blood on a trail used by all-terrain vehicles. Wardens followed the trail and met up with 44-year-old Joseph Green.

According to a state police affidavit, Green told investigators that he fired into the dark at two silhouettes after someone previously tried to steal pot plants. Hours later, he discovered he’d shot 41-year-old David Harmon, and used his ATV to move the body.

Police corroborated the story that Harmon was trying to steal marijuana. Green, who’s charged with murder, made his first court appearance Wednesday.
