PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine woman gave a tearful apology for causing a fatal crash before being sentenced to 30 months in prison for vehicular manslaughter.

Roberta Robertshaw of Baldwin says she was impaired by a combination of methadone and anti-anxiety drugs on the night she crashed into an oncoming car, killing 76-year-old Gilbert Howard of Standish.

The 28-year-old Robertshaw said Wednesday in Cumberland County Superior Court that she’s determined to succeed in drug treatment and to become a good mother for her 7-year-old daughter.

She had no prior criminal history before the collision on Oct. 14, 2009.
