PITTSFIELD – Brian R. Ferland, 54, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Throughout his journey with cancer, he kept his sense of humor and lived each day of his life with grace and courage. Born Sept. 21, 1955, in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of Robert and Evangeline (Pelletier) Ferland. A respected businessman, Brian was loyal to his customers and especially his employees. He took great pride in seeing his employees grow with the business and become part of the company he started. A passionate golfer, Brian would be seen often with close friends at Country View Golf Course, Brooks. He graduated from St. Paul High School, Bristol, Conn., Class of 1973. He attended Knox College and pursued a career in lifelong learning. He married Laurie Schipritt, in 1985 and they moved to Maine in 1989 to start the family business, Somatex, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Ferland of Pittsfield; his children, Jennifer Amara Shaverdian and her husband, Armin, of San Diego, Jason Joseph Amara and his girlfriend, Andrea Jones, and her son, Alec, of Pittsfield, Megan Carol Ferland and her fianc?, Tyson Michael Quint, of South Portland, and Andrew Robert Ferland of San Francisco; his grandson, Enzo Harout Shaverdian; his parents, Robert and Carolyn Ferland of Bristol, Conn.; his two sisters, Trudy Ann Ferland and her husband, Royce Sposato, of Pittsfield, and Karen Lynn Cookish of Thomaston, Conn.; his brother, Scott Ferland and his partner, Dan Watrous, of Manchester, Conn.; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and a dear friend, John Stuart, who has been very supportive to Brian and his family. He was predeceased by his mother, Evangeline Ferland. A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at First Universalist Church, Easy Street, Pittsfield, with Julianne Bousquet, master of divinity, officiating. Interment will be private.
