Daytime burglaries reported in Ellsworth

By Rich Hewitt, BDN Staff

ELLSWORTH, Maine — Police are warning residents to take precautions in the wake of a string of burglaries in the north end of the city.

According to Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department, there have been a number of burglaries in the past two months in the Branch Pond area, particularly on Happytown and Winkumpaugh roads.

Page said about five burglaries have occurred in that area over the past month and half.

“They’ve been going in during the daytime, mostly in the mornings,” Page said Wednesday of the burglars. “They’ve been finding the buildings unlocked. There’s only been one break-in.”

So far, the only thing missing from the homes has been loose change, he said.

Page said police are advising area residents to keep their homes locked. He said they also recommend that neighbors work together to help keep an eye on one another’s homes.

Anyone with information about the burglaries may contact the police department at 667-2168.
