Baldacci names new top Maine environmental enforcer

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci has appointed an acting environmental protection commissioner to replace David Littell.

Beth Nagusky will serve as acting commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection. Baldacci announced the appointment Tuesday.

Nagusky is a former state energy director and more recently led the DEP’s efforts to provide incentives to businesses to promote conservation and expand renewable energy. Nagusky also was co-chairwoman of the Ocean Energy Task Force, which worked with the Legislature to update Maine laws dealing with renewable re-sources.

Former DEP Commissioner Littell has been appointed to the Public Utilities Commission.
