New Gloucester man found dead in Sabbathday Lake

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from Sabbathday Lake.

Investigators say someone noticed unattended personal belongings at Outlet Beach at 6:20 p.m. Monday. Someone else paddled out in a kayak to investigate and found a body about 30 feet from shore.

Medical personnel pronounced 51-year-old Norman Chasse dead. He was from New Gloucester.

An autopsy will be conducted.
