UM-Machias men, women beat St. Thomas

    MACHIAS — The University of Maine-Machias soccer teams earned a sweep over St. Thomas University of New Brunswick Monday with the men posting a 2-1 victory and the women a 4-0 win.

In the men’s game, Luis Herrera scored off an Isaiah Eagles assist early in the second half to break the 1-1 tie and lift the Clippers to victory.

Stefan Zalucky scored an unassisted goal early in the first half for 1-3 UM-Machias. Kyle Lancaster made four saves.

Daniel Steeves scored on a penalty kick in the first half for St. Thomas. Ben Sausie had six saves.

In the women’s game, Emma Legallais and Erin O’Connor each had two goals and an assist to lead the UMM.

Brittany Shultz and Kim Pratt also had assists for the 2-2 Clippers. Stephanie Wunderley did not face a shot.

Sarah Wardell made 11 saves for St. Thomas.
