ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine’s Delta Zeta sorority Dirigo Alumni Chapter will hold its second annual Hike For Hearing at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, to raise money and awareness for speech- and hearing-related illnesses.
Proceeds from the hike will benefit the Warren Center, a Bangor speech and audiology facility, according to a University of Maine press release.
A similar event last year raised more than $400 for the center.
“We want to make the event bigger this year,” sorority member Stephanie Palmer said. “We’re hoping to get more involvement from the community.”
The hike will commence at two locations — Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal and the Roland Perry City Forest on Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.
Participants are asked to arrive at 10:45 a.m. to register. A minimum donation of $10 is required to participate.
The Dirigo Alumni Chapter was founded in 2007 as an alumni chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority. The Delta Zeta Sorority was founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1902. Today, the sorority has more than 200,000 alumnae and collegiate members across the U.S and Canada.
