PORTLAND, Maine — The country’s education chief met with teachers and education officials as he wrapped up his national back-to-school bus tour to schools in eight states.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited King Middle School in Portland on Tuesday for the final stop of his “Courage in the Classroom” tour.
Portland school officials say Duncan talked with teachers about how they are helping their students achieve and how the federal government can best support educators.
The tour kicked off last in the South, with stops in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The northeastern leg began Monday with stops in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.
