LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — Two people were taken to area hospitals after a collision of a dump truck and a pickup truck Friday morning in Lincolnville.

The accident happened when a dump truck driven by Jake Esancy of Union had mechanical problems that caused the brakes to fail, Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy David Mushrall said Saturday afternoon.

The dump truck then slammed into a pickup truck near the intersection of Route 52 and Main Street.

The driver of the pickup, 58-year-old Fred Moody of Lincolnville, was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Esancy, 25, was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Both trucks were demolished in the crash, Mushrall said. Central Maine Power Co. crews had to replace a pole and repair a transformer that were damaged during the accident.
