Portland road race raises money for scholarships

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland streets will be full of runners early Saturday in a race that’s being held to bolster the George Mitchell Scholarship fund.

The You and ME Duo Duel 10k Relay Road Race gets under way at 9 a.m., with pre-race registration starting at 7. It starts and finishes at the intersection of Commercial and Center streets.

Runners will complete a loop and hand off a snap bracelet to their teammate, who runs the same route. The best 10k team time determines the winner.

Proceeds benefit the Mitchell Scholarship Program, which has awarded nearly $8 million in financial assistance to nearly 1,800 Maine students since 1995.
