Cooking contest winners announced for Wild Blueberry Festival at Machias

MACHIAS, Maine — The winners have been announced for the 2010 Wild Blueberry Festival cooking contest, held during the festivities on Aug. 21.

The annual contest drew entries from 37 adults and 12 children. Participants came from 15 different Maine communities and four states.

Sixteen-year-old Matthew Plaisted of Jonesboro blew away the competition, winning the best-overall award for his blueberry dessert crepes. Rebecca Trundy of Addison took top honors for best two-crust pie. Andy Koch of Milford was named best boy cook and Rebecca Whitney best girl cook.

Adult Division winners:

Candy: first place, Snow Frye, Walpole, N.H.; second place, Snow Frye.

Cookies: first place, Suzanne Plaisted, Jonesboro.

Entrees: first place,Vanessa Koch, Milford.

Sauces: first place, Terri Miner, Machiasport; second place, Heidi Black, Northfield; third place, William Albee, Machias.

Salad: first place, Barb Koch, Machias.

Pancakes and Waffles: first place, Christi Holmes, Machias.

Muffins: first place, Linda Albee, Machias; second place, Barbara Crosdale, Southport, N.C.; third place, Tim Pioli, Jonesboro; honorable mention, William Albee, Machias.

Two-Crust Pie: first place, Rebecca Trundy, Addison; second place, Ashley Curtis, Day Block Township; third place, Kevin Dunn, East Machias.

Single-Crust Pie: first place, Heidi Black, Northfield; second place, Karina Richardson, East Machias; third place, Nancy Lebo, Marshfield; honorable mention,Cissy Leonard, Machias, and Nancy Lebo, Marshfield.

Coffee Cakes: first place, Marianne Thibodeau, Marshfield; second place, Rebecca Trundy, Addison; third place, Kristin Robinson, Brewer.
