MILLINOCKET, Maine — Town Council Chairman Scott Gonya resigned from his post at a regularly scheduled meeting Thursday, citing personal reasons, according to Town Manager Eugene Conlogue.

Gonya had no immediate comment on his resignation when reached Friday.

Conlogue said the remaining councilors elected Councilor John Davis to fill the chairman’s seat.

Gonya was re-elected by voters in November 2008 and then selected by his peers as chairman. He has one year left on his term. Conlogue said Gonya’s replacement will be elected this November for a special one-year term.

“He told me about this two weeks ago, but I was surprised when he first mentioned it,” the town manager said.
