PORTLAND, Maine — A 10-year-old girl who nearly died after a tree fell on her family’s campsite in the Maine town of Lebanon is out of the hospital.
Emily Malewicz of Millis, Mass., was released Thursday from the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Emily was impaled by tree splinters on Aug. 9 when a tree toppled onto her tent during a windstorm.
She was initially listed in critical condition.
Lebanon Rescue Assistant Chief Jason Cole says that when Emily is fully recovered, she plans to return to Maine and meet members of the rescue crew who helped save her life.
