Falmouth teen accused of breaking into police van

The Associated Press

FALMOUTH, Maine — A teenager from a Portland suburb is in hot water after allegedly breaking into a surveillance van that police had set up in a sting operation.

Falmouth Police Lt. John Kilbride told the Portland Press Herald that police last week parked a “bait car” with valuables in it in a local park and watched from a surveillance van after a rash of car break-ins was reported this summer.

Instead, he said 18-year-old Brian Beasley allegedly broke into the police van and took a bottle of water, apparently not noticing an officer in the back behind a curtain. Police say Beasley and an 18-year-old friend then stood outside and prepared to smoke marijuana before police confronted them.

Beasley and the other man are facing charges.
