TOWNSHIP 2, RANGE 9 — Police officers from four agencies searched without success for a white pickup truck Tuesday afternoon after a couple reported that they had been robbed while changing a tire on the side of Interstate 95.

The couple, a man from Greenbush and a woman from Veazie, told Maine State Police Trooper Thomas Fiske that around 4:15 p.m., “while they were changing [the tire] a white pickup, possibly a Dodge, pulled up and one of the individuals got out and stole her purse.”

The incident occurred at mile marker 234. Police officers from East Millinocket, deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, and additional state police troopers from the Houlton barracks searched for the suspect white truck.

“We found nothing,” Fiske said, adding that he collected “conflicting witness statements.”

The woman, who had a scrape on her knee, told Fiske that she jumped onto the pickup’s tailgate but fell off when it headed northbound with her purse, which she said contained “a substantial amount of cash.”
