ROCKLAND and WINTERPORT – June Wilcox passed away Aug. 19, 2010, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 2, 1946, in Rockland. She taught public schools for 30 years. She taught at the University of Maine, Orono, for one year; Cony High School for one year; and at Hermon High School, teaching health and home economics for 28 years, before retiring in 2000. She worked tirelessly for Finnish Heritage House, Thomaston. She enjoyed yard sales, sewing, painting, hunting for good bargains and crafting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Nathaniel. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, William Wilcox; two children, Charles and Amanda; and her grandson, Nathaniel. She was predeceased by her mother, Helmi Masalin; her father, Jalo Ranta; her stepfather, Viljo Masalin; and her sister, Helen Deshon. A celebration of her life will be held 1-3 p.m. Sept. 11 at Hermon High School.
