BELFAST, Maine — A local man charged with the unlawful sexual touching of a 16-year-old girl who worked for him at his concession stand at Belfast City Park has a criminal sex crime history in Connecticut, according to police.
Frank L. Bruce, 56, was arrested by police last week after the girl told her parents about the alleged unlawful touching and they contacted the Belfast Police Department.
Police Chief Jeff Trafton said that when the department ran Bruce through the FBI’s National Crime Information Center, they discovered he was already a convicted felon.
In 1983, he was convicted in Connecticut on a charge of unlawful restraint, and in 1983 he was convicted of “criminal attempt at sexual assault.”
According to Trafton, Bruce spent four years in prison for that crime and was on probation for five years after his term ended.
Those convictions were not for crimes against children, Trafton said.
Bruce was arrested and taken to Waldo County Jail last Tuesday and has been released on bail, Trafton said.
Police have banned him from City Park at the request of Belfast City Hall, Trafton said.
