Brunswick man kills rabid raccoon after bite

The Associated Press

BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Maine man who was bitten by a rabid raccoon crushed it using his knee.

Fifty-nine-year-old Richard Rush of Brunswick says the animal had been in a fight with a porcupine and had quills sticking out of him when he climbed a chain link fence and bit his hand Sunday.

Tests showed the raccoon to be rabid.

WMTW reports that Rush has had two series of shots already and will undergo more to keep from being infected.
