Man arrested in connection with Topsham apartment fire

The Associated Press

TOPSHAM, Maine — The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says a young Topsham man has been arrested and charged with arson in a fire that destroyed an abandoned apartment house at the Brunswick Naval Air Station Annex in Topsham.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old Robi Saputra of Topsham on Wednesday night and took him to the Twin Rivers Jail in Wiscasset. Saputra’s also charged with violating conditions of bail for a prior unrelated charge of gross sexual assault.

Fire investigators say Tuesday night’s fire started when a recliner was set ablaze in an outside storage building and spread to a carport and the four-unit apartment house.

The fire gutted the apartment house and flattened an adjacent car port and storage building. No one was hurt.
