CORINNA — A fire that began around noon Thursday destroyed the Big Apple convenience store on Route 7, according to the Corinna Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, and no one was in the building when firefighters arrived.
The fire destroyed the second floor of the store, but the first floor had less damage. There also was considerable water damage.
The fire was reported after a customer walked into the store and informed workers that there was smoke coming from the eaves.
The fire took about an hour to contain, according to Assistant Fire Chief Cory Buck. Firefighters had cleared the scene by late afternoon.
Fire departments from Dexter, Newport, Detroit and St. Albans responded in addition to Corinna.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
