It’s getting to be that time of year again and soon a good number of us will either be sending the kiddos off to school, or we’ll be headed there ourselves. Sure we all need pencils and notebooks — but why not shake things up a bit with a great new pack to carry it all in?

The SealLine Urban Backpack is just the thing to get your scholar excited to hit the halls. Its bright colors, funky roll-top closure, and welded front pocket are all about style, but technical features abound, too.

These Seattle-made packs are water-tight and PVC-free (good for you and good for Mother Earth). They’re ultralight but still manage to have a frame sheet and a burly harness. There’s plenty of room in there for all your stuff (we slipped a 16-inch laptop into the small, no problem) whether you choose the size small or go for the big-boy large.

And if you happen to paddle to class, don’t worry, it floats!
