Monhegan artists-in-residence celebrate 20 years

MONHEGAN, Maine — To mark its 20th anniversary, the Monhegan Artists’ Residency Corp. will hold a weeklong celebration Aug. 21-27 at a new studio space in the Inn at Fish and Maine.

The celebration includes an exhibition, “MARC @ 20,” of paintings photographs, prints and sculptures by 35 previous artists-in-residence, including Marguerite Robichaux, Karen Adrienne, Robert Pollien, Connie Hayes, Lynn Travis, Sarah Sorg and Michael Vermette.

A reception in the residency’s new studio location will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. Admission is $7. All proceeds benefit the Monhegan residency program.

“Bill Manning in Conversation,” a presentation by Maine painter William Manning, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Monhegan Schoolhouse.

All works in the exhibition are for sale, with a percentage of the proceeds helping to support future residencies.

For 20 years, the MARC program has provided lodging and a stipend for five-week residencies on Monhegan Island for emerging Maine artists each summer. MARC is supported by individual donations and foundation grants. For information, visit www.monheganartistsresidency.org.
