HARRISON, Maine — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department has identified the two people who were killed in a small plane crash in southern Maine over the weekend.

Officials said Monday the pilot was 68-year-old George A. Fortin, of Naples, and his passenger was 73-year-old Anatole “Tony” Kalinuk, of Harrison.

The BC-12 Taylorcraft, which was reported overdue Saturday night, wasn’t found until the following morning, in a wooded area of Harrison. Officials say it appears the pilot might have struck some trees while attempting to land in a field.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
