JONESPORT, Maine — A public auction has resulted in a new owner for a 3.2-acre residential oceanfront property that overlooks Roque Island.

The winning bid on the property, which includes a house, a garage with studio and boathouse, was $1.4 million, according to Dale Folsom of D.A. Folsom Auction Service Inc. in Gardiner. The auction was held Saturday at the property at 70 Mary Jim’s Point, off Route 187.

Folsom declined Tuesday to identify the winning bidder. He said the property’s previous owners, Robert and Marshia Brown, decided to sell the property and much of their belongings so they could live full time on their sailboat.

Attempts Tuesday to contact the Browns were unsuccessful. Folsom said he did not know how to contact the Browns.

According to a list posted on the auction firm’s website, items besides the land and buildings that were part of the auction package included a backhoe, a 2005 GMC pickup truck, a forklift, three powerboats, trailers, a 1972 Mercedes 280 SE sedan, heavy shop equipment, assorted tools, building materials, firewood, furniture, electronics, housewares, artwork, bolo ties, a silver champagne bucket and a mink coat.
