BANGOR – Audrey J. (MacMillan) Horne passed away unexpectedly Aug. 14, 2010, while on vacation in Nova Scotia. She was born May 10, 1939, in Nine Mile River, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Murray and Treva MacMillan. Her family moved from Nova Scotia to Lexington, Mass., when she was a young child and she attended schools in Lexington, Mass., graduating from Lexington High in 1957. In 1972, Audrey, Doug and their three sons moved to Bangor, living there until 1981, when they purchased the Otis General Store. Audrey worked as an administrative assistant in the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office from 1986 until her death. Audrey dearly loved her family and friends, and her life revolved around bringing happiness and fun to everyone she met. Her granddaughters and great-grandsons were the shining light in her life. She brought life and energy to any room and her compassion for people and animals will be sadly missed. Audrey is survived by sons, Patrick and his wife, Martha, and their children, Lydia and Molly, of Holden, Jeffrey and his wife, Elaine, of Holden, and their daughter, Erin Horne and her children, Kyle and Kaleb Johnson, of Hermon; daughter-in-law, Stacy of Virginia; brother, Donald MacMillan and wife, Mae; sister, Joan McAnaul and husband, Dave; sister, Shirley Walsh; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Mark Horne, in June 1999; and a sister, Phyllis Bateman. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, with family friend, the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Reception Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at Rowe’s Cemetery, Holden. Those who wish to remember Audrey in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
