SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Police in Scarborough say a traffic stop led to the arrest of a man who allegedly stole a truckload of scrap metal.

Fifty-three-year-old Stephen Fairbanks, of Westbrook, was pulled over after running a red light Sunday. Police saw his pickup truck had an unsecured load in the back that they later determined had been stolen from the Scarborough Industrial Park.

Police say Fairbanks was charged with theft, possession of burglars tools and two counts of violating the conditions of his release.

WMTW reports that Fairbanks is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.
