PORTLAND, Maine — The first phase of a $75 million expansion of the Portland Jetport is finished and a new road now runs to the soon-to-be expanded terminal, according to airport officials.
The airport’s website recently announced that its new permanent access road to the Jetport is now open and that construction is progressing on schedule. The Portland Press Herald says the $3.6 million road is part of the most ambitious expansion in the airport’s history and the largest construction project now under way in the state.
The new one-way road runs below ground level and will be the same elevation as the new terminal entrance.
The expansion will nearly double the size of the terminal, adding 137,000-square-feet of space, three gates, eight passenger screening lanes and a new baggage-handling system.
The project is due to be finished in 2012.
