Missing escort’s boyfriend faces drug charge in S. Portland

The Associated Press

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The boyfriend of Maine woman who had advertised as an escort on Craigslist and hasn’t been seen in more than two months has been arrested on drug trafficking charges unrelated to the disappearance.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says Akeem Cruz, 20, of New York City, was arrested Tuesday night at a South Portland motel where agents allegedly seized 13 grams of crack cocaine. He is being held without bail.

Police say Cruz was the last person to see 22-year-old Megan Waterman of Scarborough alive before she went missing in early June from a hotel in Hauppage, N.Y. Police say Waterman worked as an escort and that she went to Hauppage with Cruz.

Scarborough police say they are treating the disappearance as a missing-person case.
