MILLINOCKET – Richard W. “Ricky” McLain Jr., 28, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Smith Pond. He was born Aug. 12, 1981, in Millinocket, son of Richard W. and Rebecca A. (Hamel) McLain. Ricky was an avid outdoorsman, and loved fishing, hunting, snowsledding and ice fishing. He was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 1999, where he participated in the football program for all four years – a sport he had a great passion for. He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years, June 2005 – June 2009, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., and served two tours in Iraq. Ricky was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat while in Iraq. In addition to his parents of Millinocket, Ricky is survived by aunts and uncles, Donna McLaughlin, Rose Mott and her husband, Reggie, Evelyn Pelkey and her husband, David, all of Millinocket, Ellery McLain Jr. and Marie McLain of Chester, and Cindy Perry and her husband, James, of Smith Pond. A special cousin, Wesley Perry of Cornville will sadly miss him, as will his many other cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ellery McLain Sr. and Beatrice McLain; uncles, Frederick McLain Sr. and Harold McLain Sr.; and a very special cousin, David E. Pelkey Jr. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket.
