Subway spokesman Jared Fogle to appear in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — Subway spokesman Jared Fogle will be in Bangor on Aug. 20 and 21 to promote the sandwich chain in two separate events.

Fogle will spend Friday, Aug. 20, at various locations connected to the Senior Little League World Series and Saturday morning, Aug. 21, he will be at the Subway location in the Airport Mall.

From 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 20, Fogle will attend a Senior Little League luncheon to distribute 250 sandwiches to players and staff. From there, he will head to Mansfield Stadium in Bangor for the day’s semifinal game, at which he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. His schedule that day will wrap up with an address to the players and their families at the awards banquet and dinner.

Then, at 9 a.m. Aug. 21, Fogle will make an appearance at the Airport Mall Subway shop, where he will sign and present to Bangor City Councilors Richard Bronson and Gerry Palmer a set of four custom baseball bats. Made by LaCasse Bats, which is headquartered in Skowhegan, the bats bear the Subway insignia and the names of Bangor City Council Chairman Richard Stone, Fogle, local Subway franchisee Brian Hansen and the city of Bangor.

“We are very thrilled to be able to partner with LaCasse Bats for this event,” said Hansen, who owns the restaurant recently opened on Main Street. “This customized bat is very unique, and we’re honored to have Jared present it to the great city of Bangor.”

LaCasse Bats was founded in 2008 by Jesse LaCasse, who graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Standish with a degree in sports management in 2003. While playing in a summer league with a homemade bat, his teammates’ interest in his bats prompted LaCasse to take the operation commercial in 2008.

Fogle’s size 62 pants, made famous by the Subway television commercials in which he promotes a healthy lifestyle, will be on display Saturday at the Airport Mall restaurant. Participants in that event will also receive a certificate for a free sandwich at the chain’s stores.
