ELLSWORTH, Maine — A local man is accused of beating up another man so severely that the victim ended up in the intensive care unit at the local hospital.
Todd Bray, 38, was arrested Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault in the alleged attack, which police say occurred around 7:30 that night on Water Street.
Bray assaulted the man with his bare hands, punching him with a large ring he wears on one of his fingers, Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department said Monday.
“We think it was basically hands and fists,” Page said of the alleged assault. “The [victim] was basically unconscious.”
The victim, a transient man who has been hanging around Ellsworth recently, is being treated at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, according to Page. The man suffered head and facial injuries in the incident, police said.
Page said Bray has been uncooperative and that police have not yet been able to talk to the victim to find out what prompted the alleged attack.
A corrections officer at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth said later Monday that Bray has been released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
