Equipment failure, squirrel, cause outages

BANGOR, Maine — A squirrel that got into a Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. substation in Brewer on Saturday morning caused about 3,200 customers to lose their power, and then an equipment failure at an Orono substations cut power to nearly 2,100 homes and businesses.

Saturday’s outage began around 6:30 a.m. and lasted about two hours, Susan Faloon, Bangor Hydro spokeswoman, said Sunday.

“It was about 7:20 a.m. when everything was back on” after Sunday’s equipment failure, which cut power to customers in Orono, Old Town, Alton, Hudson and Stillwater, she said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
