PORTLAND — Authorities say an inmate who died at the Cumberland County Jail was a transient who was serving a five-day sentence for drinking in public.
Chief Deputy Kevin Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department says corrections officers found the 45-year-old’s body at 7:20 a.m. Thursday.
Joyce said officers had been checking on the man every 15 minutes since he went to sleep at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
There was no indication of foul play or injury.
The Portland Press Herald says police are withholding the man’s name until relatives are notified of his death.
