BUCKSPORT — Trever Labonte’s single drove in Sam Desmarais to cap a two-run sixth-inning rally that gave York County the state baseball championship for 10-11 year-olds by virtue of a 6-5 win over Waldo County Wednesday.
Jack Bouchard’s groundout delivered Peter Solimine with the tying run earlier in the inning as York erased a 5-4 deficit. Desmarais singled and eventually scored on the Labonte hit.
York went 3-0 in the double-elimination tourney while Waldo County went 3-2.
Colby Todd’s two-run single in the top of the fifth gave York a 4-3 lead but Brandon Smith and Anthony Fuller had RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth to restore the lead for Waldo County.
Center fielder Bouchard threw out a runner at the plate later in the inning to keep it a one-run deficit.
Desmarais and Brayton Chayer had RBI doubles for the winners and Desmarais also had hi single.
Emmett Shell and Alex McKenney had doubles for Waldo County with McKenney driving in a run.
York turned a double play in the bottom of the sixth and right fielder Malcolm Hughes alertly retired the final hitter when he threw him out at first to take a single away from him.
