Waterville weighs moratorium on pot facilities

The Associated Press

WATERVILLE, Maine — City councilors in Waterville will vote again whether to place a moratorium on considering applications for medical-marijuana facilities in the city.

Councilors voted 7-0 on July 20 in favor of a six-month moratorium. Councilors plan to take two more required votes on Tuesday.

The Morning Sentinel says the moratorium would give the city time to figure out if any areas would be suitable for the facilities including dispensaries, cultivation operations and storage buildings and develop standards for them.

Last month, the state chose three companies to operate six of eight medical marijuana dispensaries in the state.
