Plane crash on Abrams Pond injures Eastbrook passenger

FRANKLIN, Maine — A 35-foot ultralight plane crashed Sunday morning in shallow water near the south shore of Abrams Pond.

The pilot, Dean Young, 42, of Eastbrook, was uninjured and assisted in the removal of the plane from the water. His passenger, Marijo Grant, 42, also of Eastbrook, who was seated in the rear of the aircraft, received arm injuries and was transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth for treatment.

Hancock County Deputy Shane K. Campbell said he was assisted at the scene by Franklin, Eastbrook and Waltham Fire Departments, County Ambulance, State Trooper Sgt. Tim Varney and Deputy Jeff McFarland.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection were notified of the crash, but there was no fuel leakage.

Campbell said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
