Hermon’s Petersen advances to national final

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Tia Jackson of Old Town finished seventh in the triple jump and James Petersen of Hermon advanced to the final in the 400 during the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships Friday.
   Jackson (14) finished with a leap of 34 feet in the meet in the ages 13-14 division while Kayla Phillips won the event with a distance of 35-9½.
   Petersen (10) had the fifth fastest time in the prelim heats in the 400 at 1 minute, 3.28 seconds to qualify for Sunday’s final in the ages 9-10 division. He also competed in the 100, but finished in 14.07 and didn’t advance to the final.
   Holden’s Seraphina Provenzano (13) also competed in the 400 on Friday in the ages 13-14 division with a time of 1:07.78, but didn’t advance to the final.
