Augusta, Westbrook record victories

    BUCKSPORT — Augusta defeated Waldo County 9-8 and Westbrook beat Old Town 14-3 in the opening round of the state Little League all-star baseball tourney for ages 10-11 Friday.

Augusta will play Bucksport at 11 a.m. today and Westbrook will play in the 3 p.m. game. Waldo will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday and Old Town will play at 3:30 p.m.

In Friday’s first game, Zach Neptune hit a two-run single to drive in the game-winning run as Augusta rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning en route to the win over Waldo County.

Neptune singled twice for Augusta while Anthony Brunelle added two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Colby Trask paced Waldo County with a triple, a single and an RBI. Barrett Grant hit two singles while Brandon Smith added a two-run single.

In the second game, Logan McCarthy collected two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs to power Westbrook by Old Town.

Bailey Sawyer posted a home run, a double and a single with three RBIs for Westbrook. Dylan Francouer hit two singles and a double while David Redmond added a home run.

Dana Ouellette doubled, singled and scored a run for Old Town.

At Hermon, Connor Kelly allowed only four hits and struck out 11 to help Scarborough claim the state title Wednesday.

Scarborough advanced to the East Regional tourney where it will play the Connecticut champ at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cranston, R.I.

Jared Brooks singled and doubled for the winners while Kelly aided his own cause with two singles and two RBIs.

Matt MacLean had a two-run single for York.
