Do you have a gluten sensitivity? Share your stories and recipes

By Emily Burnham, BDN Staff

BDN reporter Emily Burnham is looking for stories and recipes from readers who have or know someone who has celiac disease, or gluten sensitivities. Recent research in both the United States and Europe shows that between .75 and 1 percent of adults may suffer from the disease, with many more showing symptoms of sensitivity to wheat, barley, rye and other gluten-containing cereals. Between gluten-free aisles at the supermarket, gluten-free baked goods offered at restaurants, and an array of gluten-free books, websites and other resources, it’s no longer something unknown to the general populous – but it is something that there’s a lot of misconceptions about. And, it’s still a daily challenge for celiac disease sufferers to figure out what they can and cannot eat. If you’d like to share your story, email eburnham@bangordailynews.com.

Burnham is also looking for your unique blueberry recipes. It’s blueberry season, and while cakes, pies, cobblers and other desserts are perennial favorites, there are lots of other uses besides that for the ubiquitous Maine berry. Send in your recipes for meat and seafood, for grillables, sauces, breads and other unique uses for blueberries to eburnham@bangordailynews.com.
