WESTBROOK, Maine — Two firefighters arrested last month on charges unrelated to their official duties here have been fired.

The Portland Press Herald says former full-time firefighter James Gammon was on the city payroll on Friday. City officials say that by Monday he was not.

Richard Dorr, a captain with the department’s call company, was fired Monday during a meeting with city officials.

Dorr was placed on unpaid leave last month after he was charged with domestic violence and other crimes.

When police served Dorr with paperwork related to the charges against him, they learned Gammon, his roommate, had a firearm in his possession. Gammon had a 1983 felony conviction making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

The two men declined comment.
