ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men’s basketball team will embark on an exhibition tour of Quebec and Ontario on Aug. 24-29, men’s basketball coach Ted Woodward announced Monday.
The team will play five contests over six days beginning with a game against Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on Aug. 24, followed by McGill University in Montreal on Aug. 25, University of Quebec at Montreal on Aug. 26, Carleton University in Ottawa on Aug. 28 and at Laval University in Quebec on Aug. 29.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to travel in Canada and play some quality schools for an exhibition series,” Woodward said in a press release.
“It is a wonderful experience, both athletically and culturally for our team. Our former student-athletes have always remarked that tours like this were amongst their most cherished learning opportunities at Maine,” he added. “We have worked hard since our last tour six years ago to secure private funding to accomplish this trip, and would like to especially thank our donors who have generously given to our program for this specific experience. Without their help, this wouldn’t be possible.”
Maine returns 11 players and four starters from the 2009-10 squad that finished third in the America East Conference and had the third-most wins in school history with a record of 19-11.
