MEDDYBEMPS, Maine — U.S. Postal Service inspectors are expected at the Meddybemps post office today to participate in the investigation of a burglary that took place sometime late Friday night.
Postmaster Debby Dow said that she was on vacation but her relief postmaster arrived Saturday morning to find the office ransacked.
Maine State Police are reporting about $3,000 worth of items missing.
Dow said she could not comment on anything that might have been taken.
Dow said the post office leases a room from the community center, and the burglars broke down the door between the two units and also broke a window.
“There was stuff all over the floor,” she said.
The post office is located on Main Street, which is also U.S. Route 191.
Anyone with any information related to the case is asked to call the Maine State Police in Orono at 866-2122.
