PORTLAND — A 47-year-old Alfred man has been indicted on federal charges a month after he allegedly blew off part of a finger while making pipe bombs in his basement.

Robert Infante is charged with possession of a destructive device and various drug and firearms offenses. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

According to court documents, federal agents confiscated five bombs from Infante’s vehicle and 12 from his house after he drove himself to a hospital when one of his bombs allegedly blew up on him. Agents say they also found more than 100 marijuana plants, drug paraphernalia, firearms and ammunition.
