Orono-Veazie, Hermon seniors to battle today

    BANGOR — Hermon and Orono remained alive in the Senior League Baseball District 3 tournament at Mansfield Stadium on Thursday.

Hermon ousted Old Town 4-3 and Orono-Veazie eliminated Hampden 4-2 after Hampden had defeated Sebasticook 8-3 in the completion of a suspended game.

Hermon will play Orono-Veazie in an elimination game at 5 p.m. today, followed by a winner’s bracket game between Bangor and Brewer.

    Hermon 4, Old Town 3

Braddock Deabay’s one-out single to right-center in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home Matt Blackmer with the winning run.

Blackmer had led off the inning with a pinch-hit single and went to second on a sacrifice by Reid McGinley.

McGinley also singled twice with an RBI for Hermon.

Gabe Melmed and Tyler Alexander each singled twice for Old Town, while Dan Gastia doubled.

Orono-Veazie 4, Hampden 2

Tyler Eddy allowed one earned run on five hits over six innings to lead Orono-Veazie to the victory.

Eddy struck out four batters and walked five before giving way to reliever Sean O’Donnell, who pitched a hitless seventh inning.

Andrew Catlin had a triple and two RBIs for Orono-Veazie, while O’Donnell added a double.

Dakota Niles doubled and Cam Libbey singled twice for Hampden.

Pat Gunn pitched a complete game over two days as Hampden earned the victory in the completion of a suspended contest.

Gunn scattered nine hits while striking out four batters, walking two and allowing no earned runs.

Dakota Niles singled twice with two RBIs for Hampden, while Gunn and Cam Libbey each singled twice and Cooper Antone doubled.

Jeff Ludden led Sebasticook with two singles and two RBIs, while Spencer Hartsgrove and Dylan Hawthorne each singled twice.

At Hermon, District 6 champ Scarborough scored three runs in the fourth en route to beating District 5 winner Lewiston.

Scarborough starter Jared Brooks struck out all nine batters he faced to get the win.

Zoltan Panyi rapped a double and two singles, Glade Fendenburg added two singles and an RBI, and Connor Kelly had two singles.

Jarred Rubin led Lewiston with a single and an RBI, and Evan Cox and Brock Belanger each had a single.

At Hermon, four York pitchers combined to no-hit Coastal of Blue Hill, striking out 10 and walking five along the way.

Chris Nielson paced District 4 champion York with two singles and two RBIs, and he earned the win in relief. Alex Nickerson also recorded two singles, and Tommy Carr got the save. James Peter started and Payton Small came on in the fourth before Neilson and Carr finished up.

For District 1 titlist Coastal, Stefan Simmons scored on a bases-loaded walk.

At Waldoboro, Alex Allain hit three singles and scored four runs to lead Hermon by Ellsworth.

Hailey Perry tripled and doubled for Hermon while Emilee Soucey hit a double and a single. Lauren Plissey singled twice and Makenzie Haskell added a double.

Shelby Cote hit a single for Ellsworth.
