HANCOCK, Maine — A 13-year-old boy was injured Wednesday morning when he fell from a boat off Hancock Point and was struck by the propeller.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday near the town landing at Hancock Point, according to Hancock Fire Chief Chris Holmes.

The boat, whose name was not released, was part of a summer boating program in town, said Sgt. Jay Carroll of the Maine Marine Patrol. He was a passenger in the boat at the time of the accident.

Details on the size of the boat motor, the boy’s hometown and the name of the program he was in were not available late Wednesday afternoon.

Holmes said the teen was rescued by the people he was boating with and brought to the town landing where they administered first aid while they waited for first responder EMTs to arrive.

Carroll said he knew the boy was conscious, but he did not know the extent of his injuries.

LifeFlight took the boy to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. There was no immediate word on his condition.

According to Carroll, the boy was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident. He said officers were still trying to piece together the events leading up to the boy’s fall from the boat.
