Police were called to York Street in Bangor late Saturday to check out a report that two females were checking car doors to see whether the vehicles were locked. When police found the women, one was inside a stranger’s car, Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter said Sunday.

Amanda Clifford, 18, of Etna, who was intoxicated, told Bangor police Officer Bruce Buchanan at 11:40 p.m. that it was her aunt’s car. The vehicle was parked at the Subway sandwich shop on State Street. Its owner reported a phone and cash were missing from the car. The phone and cash were found in Clifford’s possession, and she was arrested and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle.

She was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Sunday night, a jail official said. The second female was not arrested. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

A 27-year-old Bangor man was arrested outside of Barnaby’s bar on Odlin Road early Sunday morning, 30 minutes after the bar closed.

Bangor police Officer Joe Baillargeon was parked across from the bar when he saw a man, later identified as Jason Spaulding, “walk up to another man and violently attack him,” Sgt. Ed Potter said Sunday.

Spaulding reportedly punched the man several times in the head, then jumped on top of him and continued hitting him while a group of onlookers yelled for him to stop. Spaulding, who was arrested for assault, told the officer that he was provoked, Potter said.

Three people in three separate incidents in Bangor on Friday or Saturday first were given trespassing warnings by police who later arrested them for trespassing or disorderly conduct, Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter said Sunday.

Troy Soucy, 33, of Bangor, who in May was barred from Leadbetter’s Mini Stop on Hammond Street, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Friday for trespassing there and for violating his bail conditions, which prohibit him from drinking.

Donna Prato, 42, of Bangor allegedly was yelling and threatening people at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter around 1 p.m. Saturday and was arrested for disorderly conduct. She was told not to return to the shelter.

Roy Smith, 47, of Bangor was intoxicated and disorderly at a Broad Street home around 4:30 p.m. Saturday and was arrested for trespassing, according to Potter.

All three were taken to Penobscot County Jail. Prato was released on bail Sunday. Soucy and Smith remained in jail Sunday evening, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
