Local bands will compete at Friday’s KahBattle of the Bands, set for 7 p.m. at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School.
The bands Autopirate, Connery, Ghost Safari, Most Of Us Can Stand, The Impartial Crowd, Restless Groove and Mudseason will perform, and audience members will decide which one gets a slot at the KahBang Festival in August.
Admission is $5.

Maybe MDI isn’t the best place to go this weekend, what with the rather high profile visitors to the island, but you’d do well to check out the New York based Cuban band Nu D’Lux starting at 9 p.m. Friday at Rupunini’s in downtown Bar Harbor. They play music similar to the Buena Vista Social Club album, filtered through an urban New York sound. The show is 21 plus and there’s no cover.
3. Maine Celtic Celebration
In Belfast, the fourth annual Maine Celtic Festival is set for all day Saturday and Sunday. It features Celtic music and dancing and highlands games, road races, lots of traditional food and the cod toss, cheese toss and boot toss. All events are free, but donations are appreciated.

Way up in the beautiful scenic St John Valley, the annual Rock the Valley will take over Madawaska on Saturday and Sunday, with awesome music all weekend, including tribute bands to Journey, Heart and Motley Crue, local bands like Pacific Rim, Running Nowhere, the

5. In Theaters: “Inception.”
One of the most mysterious, hotly anticipated movies of the summer is Inception, the latest vehicle from Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. It’s got Leonardo DiCaprio and it appears to be something about mind control, altering reality and really really cool, weird special effects. I know I’m intrigued. It opens in theaters all over the state; check your local listings.
