ELLSWORTH – Barbara A. Williams Leavitt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, died unexpectedly July 12, 2010, after a sudden illness. She was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Waterville, the eldest daughter of Chicory and Hazel Williams. Barbara was active in the Ellsworth community. Along with her husband, Tom, they owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store for many years. She also worked at the Ellsworth American and Maine Tourism Board. Barbara was an active member of Ellsworth Lioness and Ellsworth Jaycees. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, C. Thomas Leavitt of Ellsworth; daughters, Kathleen Leavitt and Roger Salley of Ellsworth, Valerie Peasley and husband, William, of Otis and Kimberly Hayden and husband, Mark, of Waltham, Mass.; son, Michael Leavitt of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Nikolas Robbins, Joseph Gallagher, Michael Leavitt, Aimee Spaulding and husband, Zach, Chad Leavitt, Frank Pellerin, Richard Pellerin, William Peasley and wife, Erin, Leon Peasley and wife, Emily, Daniel and his sister, Allyson Hayden; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Brent Williams and wife, Lea, of Winslow, Beatrice Porter and husband, Clifford, of Augusta and Brenda Williams of Jackman. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends at the YMCA. She was predeceased by her parents; and daughter, Patrice. Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery with a reception afterward at Father Kenny Center, St. Joseph Church.
